This summer I am playing in the 11 Day Power Play alongside my Swedish Fish teammates. Our shift is 3 hours of continuous hockey and the money we raise directly supports cancer research in the western New York area and beyond. The shift is tiring, but nothing compared to the battle cancer patients are fighting.

Everyone on our team has a different reason to lace up their skates for this event. My reason is in support of my mom and in memory of my friend, Sabrina. This is my fourth summer participating in this event and since then my list of reasons has grown to include more friends, their families, and my family. It’s my mission, our team’s mission, and the mission of the 11 Day Power Play to finally #PutCancerOnIce.
