WOW!!!! What a year 2020 was. It surely was a year that will be etched into our brains for the rest of our lives. We all faced significant challenges during the year with the onset of the Pandemic. Some of us lost loved ones, some were forced out of work and many of us were forced to change and adapt our routines. Online learning for our children while trying to balance “work from home” requirements has been a challenge for many of us. It’s been a long and arduous road for all of us and hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel. We are all hoping that the vaccine for COVID 19 will be available soon so we can try to get back to a sense of normalcy in our lives.
One constant that remained for many, unfortunately, was their fight against cancer. While the rest of the world was battling the Pandemic, some people were not only fighting the Pandemic but were also in the “fight of their lives” battling their form of cancer. The 11 Day Power Play in 2020 adapted very quickly to come up with the event named “The Big Save”. We were still able to fundraise for research at Roswell Park as well as Camp Good Days and the Make A Wish Foundation and we participated in a very controlled environment to play floor hockey for 11 days as a community shift.
Fast forward to 2021. Get our kids back in school, get back to work in a normal environment, get back to being able to visit with family and friends as we have grown accustomed to. We are all longing for this to happen.
While we do this, we also have to realize that the struggle will go on for the person and families fighting for their lives, who are continuing to fight their form of cancer. Each new day will present new challenges and new fears, just hoping they can survive another day, week, month or even years.
This is where the 11 Day Power play, #Frozen40, 2021 comes in. We are returning to our roots of 2017. The original 11 Day Power Play event is back!!! The 2021 event will feature 40 selected players, playing ice hockey for 251+ hours over the course of 11 days while braving the elements. The event will take place at Buffalo Riverworks November 13-24, 2021. While the task will again be grueling, it will be nothing compared to what Cancer patients endure each and every day. We are taking part in this event again to raise funds for research for Roswell Park along with helping to fund Camp Good Days and the Make A Wish Foundation.
My personal reason for playing revolves around my family and friends. Over the years, we have endured a countless number of battles with cancer. Unfortunately, we have lost loved ones but we have also had loved ones beat this deadly disease. We can only hope that the donations generated through this event will be used to finally put an end to this disease.
We hope to see you out supporting the cause when we take to the ice beginning November 13th, 2021.
No donation is too big or too small, every little bit matters.
Thanks again for your support.
Sincerely, Larry Ralph
