This year is the 10th skate since the original 40 took the ice and played a record-breaking continuous hockey game for 11 days straight. That team managed to raise more than $1 million dollars before the puck dropped! The support from the community and hockey family was so inspiring the organization now has over 2,000 participants and is a staple in Western New York.

The 11 Day Power play has now raised over $13 million dollars towards cancer related research and assistance. These funds have sent 890 kids to Camp, granted 400 and donated $8 million dollars directly to Roswell Park research and wellness projects as well Oshei Children’s Hospital.

I continue to play for those battling cancer and those people supporting these courageous warriors. Since 2017, I have placed initials on my helmet honoring those who lost their battle but sadly after 10 years I am running out of room. This year I am honoring 3 individuals I have lost within the last 3 months making 2 friends’ widowers while losing my lifelong friend and national champion teammate.

I am only 7 weeks since my hip replacement but my surgeon gave me permission to skate in warmups and sit on the bench! As we say at the 11 day, Playing hockey can never compare to what it takes to battle cancer!!

I skate to honor the memories of Kathy Privitera, Russ Gugino and D.M., I skate for all those Bravely Battling Cancer, Loved One’s Supporting those Battling Cancer and all those who have lost loved ones - I skate for Us!
