Hey everyone, I am once again playing in the 11 Day Power Play this summer, taking part in a 3-hour shift to raise money that supports cutting-edge research and wellness programs at Roswell Park, Make-A-Wish WNY, Camp Good Days, Roswell Park and Oishei Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Program and The Petey Fund.
For the past three years I have participated in this event because of the passion I have to support Roswell Park and the amazing work they do over there. This year, however, I have a new motivator for why I want to support this event: Because of the hope that these organizations provide patients across the country.
Last year I had the opportunity to tour the facilities at Roswell Park that are funded by proceeds from the 11 Day Power Play and it was a truly eye-opening experience. From frontline patient care and comforting experiences for patients and loved ones all the way to the research labs where top minds from around the world come to test theories and work towards the common goal of a cure - it was easily one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
In the past year I have experienced several close friends undergoing their own battles with cancer, some experiencing inspiring success stories and others experiencing painful losses.
At the end of the day, it's the support for organizations like these that helps provide hope to patience and their families - the hope that they might make it through, or the hope to spend as much time as possible with their loved ones. That hope is what keeps people going, and that hope is what I am continuing to fight for.
Thank you all for your love and support.
