I have witnessed loved ones succumb to cancer, leaving this earth much too soon. I have also witnessed many loved ones beat the disease. Some will one day face the battle. I have been God-blessed with the health & ability to keep playing hockey in my mid-50s. It is for those who have battled cancer (or who will one day battle it) that I keep going.
I am playing in the #11DPP Community Shift this summer, scheduled to skate in three 3-hour shifts, including two in one day. I am committed to play Thursday, June 27 with the Roswell Park Comets (Noon to 3 p.m.) followed later that day with the WNY Media Stars (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.), and then Saturday, June 29 with the Ankle Benders (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.).
These shifts will be grueling, but they are nothing compared to what cancer patients endure. Please support me to #PutCancerOnIce.
Proceeds of the event will support cutting-edge research and wellness programs at Roswell Park, Make-A-Wish WNY, Camp Good Days and Roswell Park and Oishei Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Program. Additionally in 2024, the 11DPP is introducing a new annual fund we've established to award a deserving nonprofit that supports cancer wellness programs in Western New York.
